Lubbesthorpe school plans approved

The first primary school in New Lubbesthorpe has been approved, with construction set to begin in June.

Blaby District Council approved plans submitted by the Drummond Estate to construct a 420-place, two-form entry primary school required as part of the Section 106 Agreement earlier this month.

The school will be built close to the current development of homes by Beggars Lane and is close to the local centre, which will include shops and other facilities. Is it anticipated to open by September 2019 based on the current dwelling occupation rate at Lubbesthorpe.

Once completed, Lubbesthorpe will contain 4,250 homes, as well as a further primary school and a secondary school to be built as the development progresses. Local shops, parks, leisure facilities and industrial units are also planned for the new settlement.

Cat Hartley, Group Manager for Planning, Economic and Community Development, said: "We're pleased to be able to approve these plans for the first primary school in Lubbesthorpe. The development is growing at a rapid rate and by the time the school is completed we expect the first intake of pupils will be ready.

"This also highlights that the infrastructure promised during the application phase is being delivered, which will make Lubbesthorpe a highly desirable and sustainable development."
